About Hilary

I am a completely bilingual native French speaker. My family moved to France when I was three years old, and we spoke French at home.  I grew up and was educated in France to university level (two years studying for the entrance exam to the École Normale Supérieure, and one year to complete a Licence d'anglais).

I came to the UK in 1976 where I followed a very mixed career: physiotherapy, ecology and oceanography, self-employed translator specialising in environmental sciences and medicine. As a translator I also tutored A-level students, and was employed as a French tutor for Languages for all at Bangor university for six years.

French is my first language, and I absolutely love helping people learn it. I confess to a love of French grammar, be warned!!, and I believe it is key to fluency. But I also enjoy sharing the richness of French culture.

I aim for my students to feel more confident using French in real-world situations, enabling them to communicate effectively and enjoy the language.
